Wrocław Retains Place In Revised Speedway GP Calendar

World Class Speedway will still come to town in 2020 after all; the FIM have confirmed that Wrocław will host the first two rounds of the Speedway Grand Prix.

Before the GP returned to Wrocław the last year, the last time this prestigious speedway event had come to Wrocław was way back in May 1995.  Sparta Wrocław, the city’s speedway team, had just won back-to-back titles in 1993 and 1994, so the popularity of the sport was at an all time high.

Although Sparta Wrocław have not recently equalled the feat of their early 90’s counterparts, they have been very competitive for a number of seasons. As a result, speedway has become a big thing again in the city. More and more fans are snubbing the football and going to see Sparta instead, and tickets to see big speedway events have become hot property.

That surge in popularity was instrumental in the decision to make Wrocław the host of a round of last year’s FIM Speedway Grand Prix. Now, despite all the problems caused by coronavirus, the event will come to Wrocław yet again.

The first two rounds of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix have been scheduled for August 28th and 29th.

It is important to add that those who had purchased tickets for the original date of the 2020 Wrocław FIM Speedway Grand Prix will have to purchase separate tickets for this event. All tickets purchased for 2020 are valid for the 2021 date, but as the stadium is restricted to 50% capacity, a separate ticket sale is to take place for this year’s rescheduled event.
