Drunk Uber Driver Arrested Following Passenger Intervention

Last weekend a drunk Ukrainian Uber driver was arrested moments after his alarmed passenger had pulled him away from the steering wheel.

According to police spokesperson Krzysztof Marcjan, the Uber passenger quickly detected the smell of alcohol from his driver and asked him to stop the vehicle. The driver nonetheless ignored the request and remained behind the wheel.

Reports in Gazeta Wrocławska state the driver went on to knock wing mirrors off other vehicles, ignore road signs and drive in excess of 100 km/h.

YouTube footage of the Uber ride has also emerged. The short clip below shows how close the reckless drunk driver came to running over a pedestrian.

When the drink-driver did eventually slow down, the passenger took action to pull him away from the wheel. Once the vehicle had come to a stop, he pulled the Ukrainian national out of the car completely.

The 28-year-old driver then tried to escape, but police patrolling the area soon caught him. His driving licence and vehicle registration were taken from him, while his punishment could be a 2-year-long prison sentence. On top of that, the drunk driver will need to pay for the damage he caused to other vehicles.
