Shock Comeback Puts Śląsk Wrocław Top Of The League

A remarkable late comeback against champions Piast Gliwice has put Ślask Wrocław top of the PKO Ekstraklasa table.

Wrocław’s football team have been languishing in the bottom half of the table for years, with little sight of light at the end of the tunnel. Even so, WKS fans are now dreaming of a competitive season at the top end of the league after a blistering start.

Of course, only two games have been played and there is every chance Śląsk will come crashing back to reality in the near future. However, there is reason for optimism as the two wins came against decent opposition.

Last week WKS defeated Wisła Kraków 1-0 away from home thanks to a goal from Croatian left-back Dino Štiglec.

Yesterday they won another three points after coming from behind against Polish champions Piast Gliwice. A 77th minute strike from Erik Expósito leveled things up before Łukasz Broź slotted home a penalty with just a few minutes remaining.

Naturally, you wouldn’t bet your house on Śląsk staying in pole position for long. That said, at least the fans who actually care about the results can feel positive about their team for a week or so!
