Offers Submitted For Reconstruction Of Bumpy Berlin-Wrocław Road

The long-awaited reconstruction of the southbound side of national road 18 has moved another step closer following the submission of 8 offers.

Anyone who has travelled by road between the German capital and Wrocław will know all too well that the southbound part of national road 18 is in a shoddy condition. So much so, that some people even call it “the longest staircase in Europe.”

The road covers the stretch between the border and the junction with the A4 motorway nearby Krzyżowa. Driving the full length of the road takes around an hour, but feels a lot longer given the state of the patched-up surface.

Last summer the Polish Government announced that they were going to rebuild the road and turn it into a highway. The Minister of Infrastructure described the project as “an investment that drivers have been waiting years for.”

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, the cheapest offer came from Kobylarnia and Mirbud. They will be paid 254 million zł for carrying out the work, which will be done in five stages between 2021 and 2023. In total, 22km of road will be repaved.
