Wrocław’s President Wants Return Of ‘Night Trams’

According to Radio Wrocław, City President Jacek Sutryk has announced plans to have Wrocław’s trams run longer into the night.

Sutryk reportedly wants Wrocław’s trams to operate later than they do at present – possibly until  as late as 1am.

That would effectively see the partial return of the old ‘night trams’ that used to roam around Wrocław in the early hours. Night trams were scrapped 16 years ago due to complaints from residents over noise, particularly in the areas around tram depots.

The decision to stop the night trams was controversial at the time, however their return could prove just as contentious. Radio Wrocław did a vox-pop on the issue last Friday and had no problems meeting people strongly for and against night trams.

Sutryk’s proposition not only has the backing of his own team, but also the council leaders of both PO and PiS. Therefore one would be expect the changes to be voted through rather easily.
