Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, a suicidal man who jumped from the top of an electricity pylon on Krakowska street street has died.
The man climbed the 30 metre-tall pylon early this morning, prompting the local electricity board to cut power to several districts in and around the area of the incident. That in turn grounded countless trams and switched off traffic lights, causing traffic chaos in several areas throughout Wrocław.
The emergency services quickly made their way to the scene and a negotiator was deployed to talk to the man from a fire-engine platform.
Unfortunately after several hours of talks, the man could not be brought down safely. At approximately 10.35 he fell to his death. It is not known whether he consciously jumped or fell as a result of fainting. According to Gazeta Wyborcza, witnesses say the man chose to jump.
The emergency services had laid out large pillows to cushion the man’s fall in the event he did leap off the pylon. However the 35-year-old ended up landing on some bushes. Paramedics immediately rushed to save the man, but he could not be revived.
