Women’s Day In Wrocław Marred By Spate Of Xenophobic Graffiti

Three sites across Wrocław were defaced by a spate of xenophobic graffiti on Friday, which was of course International Women’s Day.

In at least one of the graffiti attacks, it is clear that the timing was not coincidental.

At Firlej on Grabiszynska street, an established alternative bar and music venue, the words “f*ck feminism” were sprayed on the door alongside a couple of white power symbols.

Wrocław President Jacek Sutryk helped to clean up the spray over the weekend and he once again came out to condemn hate speech.

There can be no consent, not only from institutions, but above all from us – the residents of this city, to acts of hatred towards anyone.

Another place targeted on Friday was the entrance to the offices of Nomada Stowarzyszenie, an NGO who assist foreigners needing help with matters such as paperwork or reporting crimes to the police.

In this instance, the NGO’s plaque was smashed up and an aggressive inscription that said “death to f*cking leftists” was sprayed on the wall.

On top of that, a mural in Nadodrze was also defaced by similarly xenophobic graffiti on Friday. The mural, which was created during Wrocław’s tenure as the European Capital of Culture with EU funds, was ruined by vandals who sprayed “f”ck leftists” onto its surface. The vandals also tagged the wall with a white power symbol.
