Ceneo.pl have become the latest company to have their own sponsored dwarf in Wrocław.
The dwarf, seen riding on a shopping trolley and holding a magnifying glass, can be found in front of the price comparison website’s office on Legnicka street.
The dwarf does not have a name yet; members of the public have been invited to send in their own proposals as part of a competition. The winning entry will receive a Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 camera (you can submit your own idea for a name here). The deadline for submissions is August 19th.
Nowadays anyone with enough money can buy their own branded dwarf, with the likes of Piast, Nasza Klasa, LG and Dialog among those to have their logo attached to some of our city’s most adored characters.
These sponsored dwarves do look cute and funny like the rest, but not everyone is amused by the idea of selling out one of Wrocław’s most iconic institutions.
The dwarves’ history binds them with the Orange Alternative movement, a group who used cunning, yet peaceful means to protest against the communist establishment of the time. However some look at the new company-sponsored dwarves and see their addition as bending down to today’s corporate establishment.
That said, many locals are quite happy to see more charming dwarves pop up in the city – regardless of whether they are sponsored or not.
