New Sculpture On Show Next To Capitol Theatre

A million-złoty sculpture conceived by Italian designer Alessandro Mendini is now on display next to Wrocław's Capitol Theatre.

Back in 2014 Alessandro Mendini received an honorary doctorate from the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts, something that prompted him to design a sculpture project especially for Wrocław. The city were charmed by the project and then opened a tendering process to find a local company who could build the sculpture.

According to Gazeta Wrocławska, the cost of the sculpture comes to one million złoty. That figure includes the cost of building and transporting the structure, as well as making changes to the area around the sculpture (e.g new benches and other small touches).

Alessandro Mendini's designs are said to be characterized by his strong interest in mixing different cultures and different forms of expression.

During his long and illustrious career he has created graphics, furniture, interiors, paintings and architecture. He's written several books and also taught at the University of Milan.
