The sport of Canopy Piloting involves parachuting at great speed and flying across the ground through a set course. The sport was one of the disciplines to be included in last year's World Games (as you can see in the video below).
The World Freestyle Canopy Piloting Championships are also being held in Wrocław at the same time. In freestyle, competitors skim across a large body of water, or touch the surface of the water with different body parts and in different positions.
Canopy Piloting is reportedly growing in popularity as a spectator sport, with many interested in the spectacle of seeing pilots skim along the surface of the water at high speeds over 100 kilometres per hour.
The opening ceremony of the 2018 World Canopy Piloting Championships took place yesterday evening and the competition proper starts today at 6am.
Over 120 participants from 30 countries will compete for the title of the best skydiver during the event.
Each day pilots will be elimated across 3 rounds, with the finals taking place on Saturday afternoon. You can find all the latest info on the championships on the official FAI website.
