The first gig on our list this month features two bands, the 'New Orleans Jazzy Street Band' and 'Swing My Boy'.
As you'd expect, the New Orleans Jazzy Street Band are primed to bring you sounds straight out of New Orleans. If that doesn't get you going, Swing My Boy will get the dancefloor flexing to their catchy swing and dance music.
On Thursday the 12th of July the Projekt O Roboczej Nazwie band will perform a setlist dedicated to music from films by Quentin Tarantino.
The lineup of the band is as follows:
Earlier this year American guitarist & vocalist George Dyer created something rather special by teaming up with Polish bass player and guitarist, Maciek Mandrykowski and Rafał Biłas respectively, with Mexican drummer Mart Sanchez completing the line-up.
Since they all got together, the international band have played numerous gigs on the touring circuit, won awards and become recognized players in Wrocław's music scene.
The lineup has changed too: Mart Sanchez has departed, with Tomasz Burzynski taking his place. They've also added Sebastian łobos on keyboards, and for this particular gig, Craig Hume will perform as guest saxophonist.
You can also read our review of the band's debut LP here.
One of the many attractions at July's Vertigo Jazz Festival is a performance from local outfit EABS, who will perform a ticketed gig at Renoma shopping centre.
EABS' sound adopts an innovative approach to jazz through the prism of hip-hop. They blend elements of soul, funk, hip-hop and electro to maintain a fresh approach to their work. The ultimate aim of the band is however to breathe the new life into the jazz genre by experimenting wildly and avoiding tired cliches.
On Friday the 27th of July the Katowice-based Agata Derlak Trio will be the main attraction at the Vertigo Summer Jazz Festival.
Formed in 2012 by Agata Derlak, Tymon Trąbczyński and Szymon Madej, the trio have won prestigous awards such as the International of Young Jazz Bands Jazz Juniors Award (2013), the Contest of Young Blues Award, Jazz Bands in Gdynia Award (2013), and the International Czech Jazz Contest Award (2015).
The Aga Derlak Trio's debut album "First Thought” was received well by several critics as well as journalists in Poland and abroad. Positive vibes about the album can be found in Polish, Slovakian and Czech jazz magazines, various websites and in the British Jazzwise Magazine.
