Roughly 20 years since it first opened, Empik's branch on Wrocław market square is to close its doors for good.
Recognised as being Poland's most prominent book store chain, Empik also sell music, dvds, video games, board games and home accessories. They have several branches in Wrocław, the vast majority of which are located in shopping centres.
Their branch on Wrocław's Rynek has been a popular fixture on the market square for two decades, during which time many Wrocławians and tourists have had a nose around and made an impulse purchase or two.
However the store will now close as early as this Saturday after Empik's management decided not to renew their lease. The decision was made on the basis that the "technical condition of the building" is no longer up to scratch.
According to tuwroclaw.com, the shop's closing down sale will see some items reduced by as much as 70%.
The speculation about what might replace Empik has already started – some say a hotel is likely to take the book shop's place.
