Wrocław’s University Of Economics To Use Only Green Energy By 2030

Wroclaw's University of Economics has become the first leading university in Poland to commit to using only renewable electricity.

This Thursday Professor Andrzej Kaleta will officially announce that his University have joined The Climate Reality Project’s '100% Committed campaign'. Kaleta will work on the project alongside the Wroclaw University of Economics Green Team, which is to be led by Professor Bożena Ryszawska and Miss Shooka Bidarian, a Climate Reality Leader and representative in Poland.

“The reduction of CO2 emissions, mitigation of climate change and better quality of air is crucial for Polish citizens. One of the solutions is green energy transition. We would like to be a part of this process, intellectually in our science work and teaching and practically by creating a green campus. The proposal from Shooka Bidarian, a leader of the Climate Reality Project, emerged at the right moment. We look forward to working together!”

Shooka Bidarian, Poland's Climate Reality Project leader, claims that Poland must find alternatives to using coal for electricity generation:

“Coal accounts for more than 80% of Poland’s electricity generation. Coal combustion is a major threat to Poland’s public health, but we know that we can stop it with the solutions and clean energy technologies we have today. At Climate Reality, our mission is to catalyse a global solution to the climate crisis by making urgent action a necessity across every level of society and our 100% Committed Campaign is here to help communities, companies and universities to speak up for clean energy solutions and chart the path to sustainability.”

For those unfamiliar with the Cilmate Reality project, it was founded by Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore. The project aims to accelerate moves towards clean energy in order to help solve what they believe is a "climate crisis". Over 14,000 people became Climate Reality Leaders in 2017, each of whom is dedicated to "spreading the truth about the climate crisis and building popular support for clean energy solutions."

The Climate Reality Project’s '100% Committed' campaign works with communities, universities and businesses worldwide. By taking action and committing to run on 100-percent renewable electricity, the organisation hopes it can make a difference.
