Wrocław's Cloud Theater have produced a innovative animated music video for local band SHE-La's new single “Mommy & Daddy Left”.
Cloud Theater are of course best known as a theatre group who embrace modern technology to produce unique plays. However the Wrocław based multiartistic outfit have also recently turned music video producers.
The video in question is SHE-La's “Mommy & Daddy Left”, a single taken from the band's new concept album “Stories”.
The 7 minute music video harnesses a new animation technique dubbed ‘digital painting’ by Cloud Theater founder Teo Dumski, who created the software used for the animation.
Dumski also directed the video, while two artists, Zhen Shen and Martyna Byczyńska, helped with the painting and animation work. The former was one of the many artists who contributed to the creation of the Oscar-nominated ‘Loving Vincent’.
The animation technique is based on incessant painting and repainting of images, all of which come together to produce a living image that tells a story. This process is described as 'performative', as the act of painting is also part of the film – viewers are able to follow the action and the process of its creation at the same time.
Cloud Theater and SHE-la also teamed up earlier this year to create the music video for the song "Impeccable", in which Teo Dumski utilised stop motion techniques.
SHE-la's concept album truly aims to tell a story and the record will even be released in book form. Every song will be accompanied with a video and all the works in the project can be used under the Creative Commons licence.
Those keen to see the fruits of this collaboration will soon be able to witness SHE-la perform live under the backdrop of Cloud Theater's visuals. The special concert, which is to take place in UniqStudio on 100 Krakowska Street, will get underway on February 14th at 7 pm.
