Wrocław City Council have revealed the line-up for the upcoming New Year’s Eve concert on the Rynek.
Last year the city had to fork out to organise its own event after state broadcaster TVP pulled out of a deal to organise their New Year’s Eve concert in Wrocław.
Despite having enjoyed great ratings, Wrocław’s new year show was dumped by TVP and replaced with a Disco Polo event in Zakopane. The reason for the decision was never clearly explained, prompting speculation that Wrocław had been axed purely for not being enough pro-PiS.
This year the city will again have to fund and organise its New Year’s Celebrations without the support of a major TV station. Unlike last year, there is no European Capital of Culture funding either. As a result, Sylwester 2017 will be on a much lower scale than has been the case in recent years.
Among those to perform this year are legendary Wrocław guitarist Lech Janerka, brass band Congo Line, solo singer Natalia Sikora, Ukrainian outfit Kozak System and Micromusic vocalist Natalia Grosiak.
2018 of course marks the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its Independence. In order to celebrate the occasion, the concert will embrace the slogan “Colours Of Joy”. During the finale of the show, many of the artists mentioned above will perform special versions of the best Polish songs from the past 100 years.
