Wrocław Panthers To Play In New Breakaway League

Wrocław Panthers, the city's American Football team, have joined forces with other top Polish sides in order to form the Ekstraklasa Futbolu Amerykańskiego (EFA).

The decision to create the new league was made after talks between the Panthers, Tychy Falcons, Seahawks Gdynia, Lowlanders Bialystok and Warsaw Sharks.

All of the aforementioned teams decided to leave the previous competition (PLFA), as a result of a decline in the growth of American football in Poland. The sport had enjoyed a significant rise in interest until last season, when attendances at matches slumped.

The people behind the new league hope to attract as many as 18 teams to take part, each of which must come from a different city. The full make-up of the league could be revealed as early as November 6th.

The 2018 season is scheduled to kick off on March 24th, with the final to take place on the weekend of 14th-15th July.
