Wrocław Students Create Innovative Cardboard Furniture

Students from Wrocław's University of Technology have shown off some innovative cardboard based furniture that is said to be multi-functional, light, ecological, durable and cheap.

The item of furniture can be put together without the use of glue or nails and can be used in a variety of ways. Despite being 90% made of cardboard, the furniture is also supposed to be durable and capable of taking on a considerable amount of weight.

The materials for the project cost just under 500zł. However, if the design was ever put into production one would assume they could be bought in bulk at a lower cost.

The furniture also has a plywood finish as well as a protective waterproof layer to prevent spilled liquids from soaking into the cardboard.

The most unique aspect of the design are the various ways the furniture can be rotated to create different spaces and functions. You can see exactly how it works in a video on the Gazeta Wrocławska website here.
