Wroclaw City Council have announced the plans for this year's New Year's Eve concert, which is to be rather low-key in comparison to previous years.
Instead of a glitzy pop-frenzy broadcast live on public tv, a collection of talented local artists will perform on a smaller stage instead. The move comes after Polish state broadcaster TVP ripped up its agreement to broadcast Wroclaw's traditional New Year's Eve concert – leaving the city with a much smaller budget.
The city proudly proclaim that there will be no playback whatsoever at the gig, which is said to feature a line-up of artistic and energetic music together with unique images.
Two concerts will be organised on the evening of Sylwester, with the Rynek stage featuring performances from the likes of Frühstück , Miloopa , Capitol Musical Theatre and the Rebel Babel orchestra. Meanwhile on Pl.Solny music fans can see bands such as Blade Loki, Mikromusic , Alicja Janosz and guests MESAJA and Girls On Fire strut their stuff.
The organisers have also spoken of how on all four sides of the market square there will be artwork projected onto the buildings and specially constructed screens.
The entire program is to end with a performance featuring giant Tibetan gongs, and as usual, at the stroke of midnight a big fireworks display will bring in the new year.
The whole event will be broadcast online on the Wirtualna Polska website, as well as on the WP tv channel (available on specific digital and cable tv networks).
