Niezły Dym: Another Successful Food Truck Convert

Following in the footsteps of Pasibus and Bratwursty, Niezły Dym is the latest restaurant to open off the back of a successful food truck.

The pizzeria is the work of the Happy Little Truck team, who have rightfully earned a host of plaudits since they opened a couple of years ago.

Fans of Happy Little Truck will be glad to know that Niezły Dym bares all the same hallmarks as its food truck cousin. The pizza is of identical quality, while prices are the same too. The piccante below costs the usual 17zl – very reasonable considering the restaurant's high profile location on pl.Teatralny.

Seeing as the pizza is the same as the food truck, it is of the usual excellent standard we've come to expect from Happy Little Truck. The waiting times at Niezły Dym are also as impressively short as the food truck too.

Another thing that Niezły Dym have kept from the food truck is nonetheless quite surprising – the ordering system. Unlike a conventional restaurant, where you walk in and find a seat first before giving your order to the waiter or the staff at the bar, at Niezły Dym you choose your pizza at the door and then pay on the spot before taking a seat.

This system results in small queues being formed on the street, which could perhaps be a tactic to draw attention to passers-by in the area. Given Niezły Dym's ruthless drive for efficiency though, it is more likely the method is being employed to get the pizza on the table as quickly as possible.

Unlike Happy Little Truck however, which is conveniently parked next to Marynka (and indeed fully connected to it in winter), there is no possibility of enjoying a glass of wine or craft beer at Niezły Dym. The pizzeria does not have a licence and currently just offers cola or mineral water as a refreshment.

This lack of liquid refreshment, twinned with Niezły Dym's swift ordering system, inevitably creates an express pizzeria where the clients are in and out the door rather quickly. Getting more pizzas sold per day is obviously good for business, and this is possibly one way that Niezły Dym can keep their prices frozen at food truck levels.

This is all fine of course, and there are times when we can really do with a place that serves quality food fast. Even so, it is never a nice thing to feel rushed – especially when there is much to like about the surrounding atmosphere. The large windows looking out onto a busy pl.Teatralnly, coupled with the action-all-areas open kitchen behind the bar, make Niezły Dym a great place to watch the world go by.

Nevertheless, if there are a queue of diners waiting to take your seat at Niezły Dym, you may feel obliged to eat and go quicker than you'd like. So if you are the leisurely type who prefers to wine and dine at a relaxed pace, a pizza from Happy Little Truck at Marynka is a much better bet. The pizza is the same quality and price, while you can have a selection of beers and wines to compliment it. Best of all, you can take your time and tuck into as little as much pizza as you'd like for as long as you'd like.

At the end of the day then, what we have at Niezły Dym is a superb express pizzeria for those who want to eat well within a short time frame. The pizza is great, the prices are reasonable, the staff are hard working and the atmosphere is lively too. The original is still the best though, and a Happy Little Truck Pizza + craft beer at Marynka arguably still has the edge over Niezły Dym.
