Zielona Oliwka: Wroclaw’s Northern Star

Over the years the quality of cafes and restaurants in Wroclaw's different neighbourhoods has come on leaps and bounds, with places such as Zielona Oliwka proving to be the perfect example.

Located next to the old tower on Wacława Berenta street, Zielona Oliwka has emerged as a popular spot for those in the north of the city looking to dine in the local area.

The restaurant looks particularly attractive at the moment thanks to its elegant beer garden, in which all the tables are snapped up pretty.

Inside the place is bright and lively too, albeit a tad a cramped in some places. Overall, it's a major improvement on the rather soulless interior of the pizza place Zielona Oliwka replaced. 

The staff were rather attentive on our visit, so if they stay true to form it won't be long until they hand you a menu like the one photographed below.

Prices for most dishes are priced around 20-30zl, with the exception of the steaks, which cost between 42-59zl. Meanwhile a large Czech beer will set you back a perfectly reasonable 7zl. 

On our visit we went for one of their chorizo pizzas and the Polish classic, schabowy:

Schabowy isn't the most complicated dish to prepare of course, yet some bars and restaurants do cook it better than others. Fortunately at Zielona Oliwka they do a good job and ours was nice and tender, while the accompanying chips were also suitably crunchy and salty.

The chorizo pizza wasn't bad either, even if it wasn't quite as special as the likes of Happy Little Truck or Piec Na Szewskiej. The base was tasty and thin, the tomatoes tangy and the chorizo spicy – everything you'd want from the dish really.

All in all, it's difficult to find too much fault with Zielona Oliwka. It's certainly not the city's most iconic venue, but it is undeniably a pleasant and dependable place to enjoy a meal in – especially if you live nearby. Some might think the prices are a bit steep, but that is true of many places nowadays and we found Zielona Oliwka to be better value than most of the hipster style restaurants that are propping up at the moment.
