Following the death of 25-year-old Igor, who died at a police station on Sunday minutes after being fired by a stun-gun, the policeman who chose to use the weapon has reportedly been suspended from duty.
According to unconfirmed reports in Gazeta Wroclawska, the policeman fired the stun-gun after Igor had been handcuffed – an act that is a violation of police regulations. The newspaper also believe that a further three officers have been placed on sick leave following the tragic death of Igor at the police station.
The news comes the day after violence broke out for a second consecutive evening at a protest condemning the actions of the police. On Tuesday evening a peaceful protest demanding answers about Igor's death turned violent, prompting Igor's family to call for calm and for people to demonstrate calmly and peacefully. Those words were unfortunately not heeded by some groups of hooligans, who last night faced off with riot police to create scenes similar to those of Tuesday.
Meanwhile the District Prosecutors Office In Legnicka will take over the case and try to determine the cause of Igor's death as well as the chain of the events that occurred before, during and after his arrest.
