With a growing number of vegetarian eateries in Wroclaw, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd— but newly opened take away 'The Root' does just that. Excellent service plus both tasty and filling food make this place a great choice for a quick lunch near the Rynek.
The atmosphere inside is both light and airy, while the friendly waitstaff speak great English. Despite the lines that can grow during lunch, the service is still quick. Though the menu is simple, what they have they do well: wraps and sushi, both of which are vegan and very flavourful. (And they do have gluten-free wrap options too, such as the two photographed below).
The Root's falafel wrap has a Polish twist along with the hummus, with both pickles and beets. The tofu scramble comes with roasted veggies and reminds one of a breakfast burrito with potatoes and roasted vegetables. Add a sandwich with a cup of soup, and you've got yourself a satisfying and filling lunch.
The soups are simple yet flavorful. The corn chowder light, the zucchini mushrooms rich and savory, and the classic tomato intense and tangy.
Vegan sushi is another intriguing dish on offer at The Root. This can be hard to get right, yet the Root's Pieczara Ognia roll is great: the roasted red peppers provide excellent texture, the avocado and tofu the right blend of mild and creamy, all of which goes hand in hand with the crunch of the pickles and the spicy red pepper. The intriguing purple color is from black rice.
Vegan desert lovers are catered for here too – the cheesecake is amazing. The strawberry sauce is lovely and the tart provides nice contrast to the sweetness of the creamy filling and the crunch of the crushed nut crust. (They also do vegan paczkis.)
Admittedly, there are only a few places to eat by the counter inside The Root's compact interior. Even so, there can be no doubt that this is a great choice for lunch on the go.
