'Tis the season – and as you can guess from the look of the market square, Christmas shopping is at its peak. If you're looking for alternatives to the crowded malls or rather kitchy Rynek Christmas market, here is a handy list of some upcoming independent Christmas markets:
5-7 & 12-14 Dec – Ręki Dzieła Fest, Kino Nowe Horyzonty
Every year, Ręki Dzieła Fest showcases top local designers and crafters. This year, as ever, you will be able to browse through a selection of home decorations, Christmas cards, jewelry, toys and clothes – many of which are produced by Wrocław based artists. My picks are the Velvet Craft ceramic brooches, plus the nature inspired fine silver jewelry from Lithuanian born PanDon.
6-7th Dec – Rękodzielnia Niezależnych Wyrobników, Cztery Litery Pub
If you are looking for some more alternative gift ideas, then this is the place to check out. The selection varies from jewelry, clothes and toys to pet accessories. My picks would be Idiotek accessories, which include hand woven paracord dog leashes and collars. You'll also find numerous cool and colorful toys made with top quality anti allergic materials by the team at Jolly good fellow crafts.
Dec 6th – Mikołajkowy Bazar Prezentowy, Głuchy Telefon Pub
For just a few hours this pub will turn into a small gift market full of items made by new, up-and-coming Wrocław designers. To see what will be 'IN' in 2015, check this place out. You'll not only see cool jewelry and cozy scarves, but also home made Christmas cookies. My pick however is the bright and warm hats from Head Crash and the retro inspired pins from I hate Pink.
Dec 13th – Moda na Nadodrzu, Łokietka 5- Infopunkt Nadodrze
This event is part of the bigger Noc Nadodrza, where you can shop till you drop until midnight. Infopunkt will be turned into a fashion boutique with Wrocław designers. There you will be able to choose from street wear to haute couture pieces and one of a kind accessories. Infopunkt have also invited several Nadodrze native artisans. My picks for this market are the classic belts from the Marek Musielak saddler shop, plus the silver and aluminum jewelry by Fancy Finch, which is nicely decorated with photos of Wrocław street art.
