Dalat II: Vietnamese Cuisine On Grabiszynska

In recent years Wroclaw's Asian dining options have been enriched by the arrival of a spring of Vietnamese restaurants. One such example is Dalat II, a place that appears a little brighter, cozier and cleaner than some of its budget competitors.

Dalat II's location next to a busy part of road on Grabiszyńska street doesn't exactly ooze of charm or romanticism, but its competitive prices, friendly service and good food all go a long way towards making a visit here more than worthwhile.

The interior contains some of the typical riffraff that you'd expect to find in most Vietnamese restaurants, although the large windows and bright walls yield a lot more light than you'd find in the likes of Restauracja Hanoi on Legnica street. This makes the place feel noticeably warmer and livelier than the aforementioned Hanoi, which is beginning to look dead on its feet.

One of the best things we found about Dalat II was the service – the Vietnamese waiters appeared to speak Polish well and were incredibly polite and professional. Indeed, even the tightest person from Poznan wouldn't begrudge giving a small tip here.

There might however be a little confusion with another member of staff (presumably the owner or manager), who enthusiastically communicates with the customers in French, Polish and English – all in the space of two sentences. That said, this gentleman is a friendly character and clearly loves his customers. If anything, watching him speak 'Polanglofrench' to others in the restaurant makes for humorous pre-meal entertainment.

As for the food, meals here cost somewhere around the 16-26zl bracket and come in fairly generous portions served on charming warming plates heated with little candles. On our visit we went for the green curry (left) and grilled salmon (right). Both dishes hit the spot and were easily worth the money.

Although Dalat II's location just outside the city centre might understandably dissuade some from paying a visit, in these times of growing inflation it would be wrong to overlook this great value restaurant. Yes, there might be some cheaper Vietnamese places out there – but in terms of quality and comfort, Dalat II is just as well priced as any.
