Salvador – La Hacienda de Uciecha has been a strong contender on Wrocław’s pub map for over a decade now and we should be so lucky if that never changes. That’s quite simply because this place is special! Amongst many other things, Salvador serves as an enclave for artistic souls and all those who appreciate its magically surreal atmosphere.
Salvador is located directly in Wrocław’s Old Town area, yet it’s hidden away just enough to provide a sense of escape from the city. Upon entering the cellar of the old stock market building where Salvador is situated, you are immediately struck by the beauty and magic of the incredibly impressive remakes of Salvador Dali paintings. The entire East wall of the pub is a giant recreation of “The Elephants”, while Dali’s infamous visage overlooks the bar and first room of the pub. Today, there are two Jägermeister deer up there keeping him company, as Salvador recently became the first and only pub in the city to be sponsored by the German 70-proof digestif.
The second room, equipped with comfy couches, antique chairs and tables crafted from old ‘Singer’ sewing machines is as awe-inspiring as it is wholesome and cozy. Although at first glance you may not realize what's hanging directly above your head, if at one point you should look up, you shall discover a world turned upside down! In (sur)reality though, you’ll be looking at the chairs and fully dressed tables that have been fastened to the ceiling. The third room serves as a smoker’s lounge, but even those who do not partake in such activities should take a sneak a peak at the walls, which showcase a few more of Dali’s masterpieces.
Salvador is great all year round, however, come the warm summer weather you'll discover yet another of its charms. Salvador’s beer garden is like a dream come true! Nothing compares to that sweet bohemian feeling of enjoying a cappuccino or freshly made sangria while contemplating the meaning of life and soaking in the sunlight away from the hustle and bustle of the city (whilst ironically, being smack down in the middle of it).
As for the actual bar and its selection – the staff are very friendly and speak English fluently. On tap you’ll find a range of typical lagers like Tyskie, Lech, Pilsner Urquell, Książęce Czerwone, Książęce Ciemne & Grolsch priced at 8 zł. However, one cannot speak of Salvador without mentioning it’s never-ending special on tequila silver, which rain or shine, all year round, costs just 5 zł! Other infamous offers include a 1 litre jug of fresh sangria starting at around 20 zł.
Every week on “Student’s Thursday”, select lagers go for 5zł a pint and a shot of flavoured vodka costs only 4 zł (No Student Card required). On Sundays, whisky can be purchased for as little as 6 zł and 9 zł. On top of that, they’re always sure to conjure up a great “Happy Hours” special, which changes with the seasons and always includes great deals. Also, come Salvador’s birthday, the staff traditionally prepare a special cocktail menu, naming the drinks after the titles of Dali’s paintings.
As for the weekends, you can be sure to count on great music provided by renowned local DJs such as Romek Rege, One Shot Sound, Teskko and more. The dance floor may not be the biggest in the world, but nowhere else do you get to dance on a giant Persian rug, which makes you feel even more at home than the warm fuzzy feeling of the tequila.
So there you have it folks! If you haven’t met the likes of Salvador yet, it’s about time that you get yourselves acquainted!
