The Diner: American Fast Food, Retro Style (CLOSED)

The concept of the all-American diner has now made its way to the street of ul. Szajnochy, located just behind Pl.Solny. Simply named The Diner, this retro American eatery offers everything from all day breakfasts to thick milkshakes and home-style comfort foods.

With its neon signs, vinyl booths and black and white tiles, the ambiance of this space will have you believe the clock's wound back to America circa 1959.

Diner, Wroclaw

The menu keeps it classic with pancake breakfast specials and typical American soul foods such as cheeseburgers and hot wings.

All burgers at The Diner can be ordered with a single or double patty. We decided on the single patty cheeseburger and had no complaints – the beef patty was rather juicy and was draped generously with matured white cheddar. It’s also worth mentioning that all the burger buns are made fresh and in house daily (see the pictures on our Flickr page). As you can see below, the burgers are also complemented with a side serving of thin and crispy fries.

Burger & Fries, Diner, Wroclaw

Although we found the burger satisfying and of a decent quality, there was sadly no wow factor to it at all. In our book, the burgers at The Diner just don’t stand up to what we’ve previously sampled at the likes of Sztrass, Rockburger, and Burger Love.

Having said that, one thing that will keep us coming back to The Diner is the milkshakes (pictured right). Both the chocolate and the cookies & cream shakes were incredibly rich and flavorful with just the right creamy consistency.

The hot wings on the other hand were quite a disappointment. A proper hot wing must be crispy to bite and doused generously in sauce – unfortunately however, the wings at The Diner came soggy, slightly burned and in desperate need of flavoring.

As for the service, it’s tough to comment having only been there once, but there’s a clearly friendly, laid back vibe here that suits the venue and the food.

All in all, the food at The Diner was acceptable but not memorable. I'll not exactly be in a hurry to go back anytime soon, though when I eventually do return it will solely be for the funky ambiance and the heavenly milkshakes.
