There are a handful of burger joints in and around the market Square, but unless you are in the know, Friends Bistro & Coffee Bar, tucked away on ul. Sukiennice neighboring Butchery and Grill, will probably have slipped you by.
This cozy bistro offers inventive burgers done up with thoughtful combinations of cheese, fresh veggie toppings and unusual extras like pear and lingonberry jam.
The menu offers around 7 variations of the same house ground chuck patty distinguished only by different toppings. Chicken burgers and vegetarian options can also be found.
I was immediately won over by the Pear, Gorgonzola and Lingonberry Burger. The meat itself was extremely moist and well-seasoned and the bun was nice and soft. The lingonberry and the pear complimented the pungent flavors of the gorgonzola well.
The BBQ Burger draped with sharp white cheddar and crispy bacon is a great option for all the meat enthusiasts out there. Extra napkins are essential for this burger.
As anyone knows though, it doesn't matter how good a burger place grills their patties if they can't master the art of fries. Thankfully, the fries here are crisp and well-seasoned.
Although burgers are the focal point at Friends Cafe there is also a large variety of salads, pastas and breakfast options on the menu.
Overall, lunch at Friends Bistro & Coffee Bar was enjoyable. I appreciated the thought and creativity put behind the food and the risk taken to step away from conventional flavor pairings. This venue is right up there on the growing list of places in Wrocław where you can indulge in a quality burger.
