Samos & Pierogarnia

Our goal at Wrocław Uncut has always been to review as many establishments as possible, regardless of their location. In our new 'It's yer local!' series, we'll be visiting bars, cafes, restaurants and take-aways, all located in various neighbourhoods outside the city centre.

Our first edition of the series takes us to Samos & Piergornia on ul. Aleja Pracy.

Nestled half way between the Hutmen and Aleja Pracy tram stops on Grabiszynska and Hallera, Samos & Pierogarnia serve as convenient low cost eateries for those in the surrounding neighbourhood. Each place has a separate bar and kitchen, but also share their table space with each other – so feel free to cross over to either restaurant to grab a free table.

Neither place will win any Michelin stars or interior design awards, but both offer swift service and affordable food. Samos' pizza stands up to any of the major take away chains such as Telepizza, and is great value to boot – a standard pepperoni is a snip at just 10zl. If pizza doesn't take your fancy, Samos also do plates of gyros & chips with garlic sauce. Be warned though, the portions are beyond enormous and practically resemble a heart attack on a plate.

There's no surprises for guessing what Pierogarnia's specialty is, but this no frills Polish bar & restaurant has a lot of other Polish classics on the menu, including schabowy and potato pancakes. Most dishes are cheap as chips, with a beer and a large meal unlikely to set you back any more than 20zl.

During the vacation period, Samos & Pierogarnia also have a cozy beer garden outside, allowing you to soak up the summer sun while you tuck into your meal. Another bonus is that all the food is available to take-away, should you prefer to eat in the comfort of your own home.

There are without doubt better places for Pizza and Polish food in Wrocław, but that's not really the point. Samos and Pierogarnia are two decent local places to grab a bit of food when your fridge is bare, and there are no qualms about what you are getting for your cash. So If you are in the area, feel free to pop in and check them out!
