Anyone looking to enjoy a quick beer on the way out to a party, concert or football match could soon be in for a nasty surprise. Wrocław's 'mandat' (fine/penalty) heavy Police are set to control MPK vehicles on a regular basis.

While moves to prevent the harassment of passengers and vandalism of MPK vehicles will be welcomed, cynics may argue this another lame attempt to gain revenue through the application of fines.

Enjoying a beer on public transport is part of daily life in places like Berlin, yet it is somehow crassly viewed in a negative light on this side of the border.

Meanwhile in better news, last week's reported clamp down on drinking on Wyspa Słodowa looks to have been shelved. A mountain of Internet protests appears to have pushed politicians into backing down on their plan to speed through new legislation, according to reports in Friday's Gazeta Wrocławska.
